In order to promote horticulture as a productive and sustainable farming system, the Government of Haryana established the Haryana State University of Horticultural Sciences (HSUHS), now known as Maharana Pratap Horticultural University (MHU), Karnal. The University came into existence on 28 November 2016 through the Haryana State University of Horticultural Sciences Act, 2016 (Haryana Act No. 32 of 2016), with the vision of the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India to establish a state-of-the-art institution dedicated to horticultural education, research, and extension

The University has been mandated to serve as a centre of excellence in teaching, research, and extension education in horticulture and allied sectors, contributing to food and nutritional security, ecological sustainability, enhanced livelihood opportunities, and the economic prosperity of farming communities. It aims to develop diversified and sustainable farming systems that improve productivity and profitability in horticulture. The University also focuses on training farmers and extension functionaries for the effective dissemination of advanced horticultural technologies in Haryana and neighboring states.

MHU is a premier educational & research institute imparting horticultural education since it’s inception. It is committed to provide world class education, research and extension activities as per mandate of the Act for benefits of all the stakeholders. The vision of this newly established University is to impart quality education, to conduct research and disseminate extension activities largely through time tested traditions blended with latest innovations to transform youth into human resource.

The state-of-the-art infrastructure is being developed at all Regional Research Centres of the University for providing research and extension activities for betterment of farming community. All concerted efforts are being made to conduct training programmes/workshops/ seminars for extending extension activities in horticulture and allied sciences...
