The MHU Regional Mushroom Research Centre, Murthal has been taken over by Maharana Pratap Horticultural University, Karnal from HAIC Agro R&D Centre, Panchkula by depositing Rs. 6.44 Cr on the decision of Haryana Govt. on Ist June, 2020. This centre has ten acres of land on which Administration Block, Conference Hall, Mushroom Spawn Production laboratory, Compost & Casing Soil production & pasteurization facility, Retractable green house, and Hi-tech Nursery has been established. Out of above land, approx. three acres land is open in which various medicinal, fruits and vegetables are being grown for experimentation & demonstration. Adjacent to this land, there is six acres land which was donated by Gram panchayat, Murthal on which Herbal Park namely Amaltas Vatika, fifty bedded trainees hostel and officers guest house, 100 capacity training Hall and seven residences for staff has been made. There is following human resource strength at this centre:

Following activities are being carried out at this centre:

TRAININGS
The MHU-RMRC, Murthal regularly imparts one week residential trainings on various horticultural topics like Mushroom Production Technology, Scientific Bee Keeping, Protected Cultivation of Fruits & Vegetables, Aeroponics & Hydroponics, Nursery Raising of exotic high value vegetables, Commercial Floriculture etc.

MUSHROOM SPAWN PRODUCTION
This centre has a modern Mushroom Spawn (Seed) Production Lab. This Centre produces and sale mushroom spawn of various types of mushrooms against demand. In the year 2020-21 & 2021-22, this centre has produced & sold 94 MT & 93 MT mushroom spawn respectively.

PASTEURIZED COMPOST & CASING SOIL FOR MUSHROOM PRODUCTION
The Centre has the mushroom compost & casing soil production & pasteurization facility to supply required substrate for mushroom growing at “NO PROFIT NO LOSS BASIS to farmers. This facility has been developed due to increase incidence of diseases and pests in mushroom crop. In the year 2020-21 & 2021-22, this centre has produced & sold 818 MT & 454 MT pasteurized compost & casing soil respectively.

Hi-TECH NUSERY FOR PRODUCTION OF VEGETABLE AND FRUIT SEEDLINGS
There is a Hi-tech nursery of 2000 sq.m. area equipped with modern cooling, heating, irrigation and ferti-gation facilities for raising nursery of high value vegetables, flowers and fruits on farmers demand. Around ten lakhs seedlings of colour capsicum, cucmber, watermelon, muskmelon, tomato, brinjal, broccoli, chillies, sponge gourd, bottle gourd, guava, grapes, citrus, jamun and seasonal flowers has been provided at reasonable rates in the year 2020-21 & 2021-22

ICAR- AICRP ON MUSHROOM
The Project Coordinator-cum- Director, ICAR- DMR Solan provides the technical programme on various researchable issues on mushroom to its 33 coordinating and cooperating centres all over India. This centre is one of the coordinating centre of AICRP on mushroom & conducts research and extension programmes. This centre has been recognized as best research and extension centre among AICRP centres on mushroom.

DEMONSTRATION AND EXPERIMENTATION PLOTS
This centre has developed around 3 acres open land in which approximately on 1 acre medicinal plants/herbs has been planted, rest 2 acres land, exotic vegetables are cultivated for demonstration and experimentation.

PROTECTED CULTIVATION
The RMRC, Murthal has one retractable green house and one green shade net house each of 1000 sq.m. in which high value vegetables like colour capsicum, cherry tomato, zuchhini, etc. are being cultivated for experimentation and demonstration.

RESOURCE GENERATION
The Centre generates resources from all above activities i.e. by sale of pasteurized compost, casing soil, spawn, vegetable seedlings and vegetable produce as well as by organizing sponsored trainings on various horticulture aspects. The RMRC, Murthal has accumulated revolving fund of Rs. 1.38 crores and 1.84 crores in the year 2020-21 & 2021-22 respectively.
